DIY EK Series Honda Civic Acura EL Timing Belt and Water Pump Replacement + Coolant Replacement

Описание к видео DIY EK Series Honda Civic Acura EL Timing Belt and Water Pump Replacement + Coolant Replacement

A quickie video showing how to replace the timing belt and water pump with coolant on a 1996 - 2000 model year EK chassis Honda Civic or Acura 1.6 EL. This procedure applies to all D series SOHC (single overhead cam) 1.6 liter motors from this generation regardless of whether or not the engine has VTEC (variable valve timing and electronic lift control). The only series of civic that this procedure doesn't apply to is the twin cam B16 series motor that was available on the Civic Del Sol VTEC or the Civic Si (USA) or the Civic SiR (Canada). I'll apologize in advance for the blurry video segments as my video camera was inadvertently put on manual focus while filming and I didn't notice until AFTER the fact. Also, this particular video isn't as detailed as my prior videos as I was in a rush to complete this job but at the same time trying my best to document the procedure for everyone. I'll be committed to making better repair videos than this one but at least it has SOME useful reference value.

All the parts purchased for this fix were purchased from Honda including the CONCENTRATED coolant mixture. You can always buy pre-mixed from Honda or even an aftermarket substitute but since I'm a stickler for factory everything I opted to spend the extra few bucks on buying the genuine fluids and parts. In Canada it is best to use a 60/40 mix of coolant concentrate to distilled water ratio for optimal cooling and boil over protection. It can get cold up North so better safe than sorry!

Job took realistically about 2.5 hours to complete but a newbie with some degree of mechanical proficiency should be able to complete this job in about 4-5 hours max.

Just remember to ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WORK and make sure your timing marks are dead spot on at TDC. You'd rather quadruple check your work and not have problems than to ruin your engine.

Good luck!
