▶ In this video, I talk about the arguably crazy British Federation idea presented by Winston Churchill. In 1912, Churchill proposed the federalization of the United Kingdom while serving as First Lord of the Admiralty. This plan aimed to introduce regional assemblies for Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and various regions of England to handle local matters, with the central government retaining control over national issues. Churchill, at the time a member of the Liberal Party, believed this federal structure could address regional grievances and promote unity, though his proposal faced significant opposition. Despite its rejection, the idea of devolving power continued to evolve, influencing the UK's constitutional arrangements from that moment onwards, including the establishment of the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly, and Northern Ireland Assembly - with the Liberal party today still defending Churchill's Federation idea, which would include replacing the House of Lords with a Federal Senate.
