There are many relevant aspects which provide challenges for building up the required charging infrastructure. Just to name a view of the challenges like user friendliness, exponential growth and required knowhow, but surprisingly the main challenges lie on the technical side.

For the US the charging standards DIN70121 and the corresponding SAE standard do apply. And while both electric vehicle EV and charging station EVSE developers are all following the same set of standards, subtle differences in implementation can occur due to varying interpretations of the documents.
