This Place in History: Ethan Allen's Cave

D. P. Thompson’s book “The Green Mountain Boys” paints a fictionalized portrait of larger-than-life figures like Ethan Allen, including stories about their time on Lake Dunmore avoiding British spies and Native Americans hiding out in this cave. The cave was most likely “discovered” when the area was denuded of trees due to the area glass industry and stories grew up around it. But what made this cave really grow in interest were the Daughters of the American Revolution, who in 1906 engraved a sign into the rock in memorialization as the Green Mountain Boys cave.
