The music world is mourning the loss of Emily “Cissy” Houston, the mother of music icon Whitney Houston and a highly successful gospel and soul singer in her own right. Cissy passed away peacefully on Monday, October seventh, at ten-thirty a.m. ET, at her home in Newark, New Jersey, while under hospice care for Alzheimer’s disease. She had just celebrated her ninety-first birthday a week earlier, on September thirtieth, and died surrounded by her loved ones.A statement shared by the Whitney Houston Estate expressed the deep sorrow felt by her family. Pat Houston, Cissy’s daughter-in-law and the current executor of the Whitney Houston estate, said, "Our hearts are filled with pain and sadness. Mother Cissy was a strong and towering figure in our lives. A woman of deep faith and conviction, who cared greatly about family, ministry, and community.
