Rome didn't just claim political authority—they claimed divine authority. Caesar was called son of god, lord, savior. Under this brutal occupation, different Jewish groups emerged with competing visions: Zealots with violence, Essenes in withdrawal, Sadducees in collaboration, Pharisees in law-keeping.

Into this chaos, Jesus gave His disciples a prayer that was none of those things—and answered all of them.

We don't have Caesar anymore. But we have our own empires demanding allegiance. As C.S. Lewis wrote: "There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'Thy will be done.'"
