The Three Ladies Podcast shares a discussion with Tasha Bell and Ingrid Sevieux about being over 40 and how we face relationships, menopause, work, aspirations, children, and emotions.
Perimenopause and menopause are natural phases of a woman's life, often accompanied by hormonal changes that can lead to various symptoms. Treatments aim to manage these symptoms and improve quality of life. Options include lifestyle changes, medical treatments, and alternative therapies. Sleep Hygiene: Maintain a consistent sleep schedule. Use cooling techniques, like a fan or breathable fabrics, to ease night sweats. Stress Management: Practice mindfulness, meditation, or relaxation techniques.Medical Treatments: Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): Estrogen-only or combination (Estrogen + progesterone): Effective for hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. Not suitable for everyone (e.g., women with a history of certain cancers or blood clots).
Non-Hormonal Medications: Antidepressants: Low-dose SSRIs (e.g., paroxetine) can reduce hot flashes and mood swings. Gabapentin: Helps with hot flashes, especially at night. Clonidine: A blood pressure medication that may reduce hot flashes.
Osteoporosis Medications: Bisphosphonates or selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) to prevent bone loss. Alternative and Complementary Therapies Phytoestrogens: Plant-based estrogens in soy, flaxseed, and red clover may help with mild symptoms. Herbal Supplements: Black cohosh, evening primrose oil, or dong quai (consult a healthcare provider before use). Acupuncture: It may help alleviate hot flashes and improve sleep quality. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Effective for managing mood swings and sleep disturbances. Regular check-ups are essential to monitor bone density, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being. Loss of estrogen and testosterone hormones that affect all systems in the body. Perimenopause can start at 30, the average age is 45 to 55 of menopause, and menopause is until the woman dies with no treatment. 83% of women going through menopause, only 10% are being treated, and 50% of women will have an osteoporosis fracture before they die, and it is preventable.
Vaginal dryness is a common condition that can occur at any age, but especially after menopause.
