Sludgemaw is a boss in Borderlands 4 that you can fight by helping the Outbounders. The Outbounders will give you quests as you progress the story, and eventually, you will get a quest called All Charged Up. Just keep helping them and you will get it after the Null and Void quest iirc.

Once you have All Charged Up, set that as your next target. Head to Watershed Gate (which is northeast of The Launchpad) to start the quest. To avoid spoilers, just do what the quest says, it is pretty straightforward. Towards the end of the quest, you will fight Sludgemaw. IF you have already killed Sludgemaw once, just get back to the room right before the boss fight and interact with Moxxi's Big Encore machine to pay to fight it again.

Drop down the hole and you will slide into the boss arena. The first thing you are going to want to do is kill whatever the other Thresher in the arena is. This shouldn't be tough, and I have only seen one other Thresher spawn besides Sludgemaw per each time I fought it. Once the other Thresher is dealt with, wait for Sludgemaw to pop up next to you to try and melee attack you. Dash away from Sledgemaw to avoid its attack, and right after it swings and misses, start inching towards Sludgemaw.

When you get a certain distance from Sludgemaw, it will try to melee attack you again, but will miss! This is your cue to STOP moving and just stand still. Sludgemaw will get stuck in a loop of trying to melee attack you but missing. Now, just blast away at Sludgemaw and kill it! This prevents Sludgemaw from going underground, which eats up a TON of time when you are trying to farm it. Good luck on getting the legendaries!
