In recent times, the textile industry has come under increasing scrutiny due to its environmental impact, with concerns ranging from resource depletion to waste management. Approximately 8 million tons of textile waste is generated annually in India, majority of it is dumped or incinerated. Currently, the textile waste value chain is fragmented and largely informal, resulting in a lack of collaboration between stakeholders.

However, with these challenges, there are also opportunities for circularity, resource recovery and inclusivity of waste workers. To address these pressing issues and underscore the importance of sustainable textile waste management, Concordia Textiles and Enviu together with @Purfi are working together within the framework of the develoPPP funding programme, which Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (@GIZ) GmbH implements on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to demonstrate an inclusive and circular value chain for textile waste in India. Saahas Zero Waste has been engaged as a knowledge partner in this project.

As a part of the project, Saahas Zero Waste organized a Webinar on Inclusive and Circular Textile Waste Management: In this session, we delved into the challenges surrounding textile waste management, explored potential solutions, and advocated for short and long-term strategic actions in the industry. With distinguished speakers representing brands, sustainable solution providers, research organizations, and community-based groups, the webinar delivered insightful discussions and actionable insights for all stakeholders involved in the textile sector.
