TV One Unsung contributor, music historian, author, radio personality, public speaker & event host Marcus Chapman demonstrates what it means to be a music historian, and explains what it takes to be a contributor to the TV One music documentary series "Unsung". Saturday February 18, 2017. Chapman has appeared in 10 episodes of Unsung and/or Unsung Hollywood as of April 2017. "Appearing in episodes of Unsung is really an extension of what I've been doing for most of my life. I didn't just pop up on TV talking about music. Some people think because they see me or the other historians on there that they can be on there too. Ok, what makes you qualified, and more importantly, where's the Proof that you're qualified? Lots of people know about music, but documentation beats speculation. The books I did are documentation of the knowledge I acquired over the years. You also have to be able to communicate what you know on camera. I have a degree in Communications, a minor in Black studies, and I started doing radio 25 years ago. This video is a way to show some of how I got to this point and why this is my lane. Also, the records you see in the background represent a portion of my vinyl collection.
