গ্রিক সাম্রাজ্যের সান্তরিনি দ্বীপে এজিয়ান সমুদ্রের মধ্যখানে চাঁদের মতো বাঁকা এই দ্বীপটি পৃথিবীর অন্যতম সুন্দর একটি দ্বীপ। ভলকানিক মাউন্টেনের উপর গড়ে উঠেছে এই দ্বীপটি। পুরো দ্বীপটির প্রতিটি ঘরবাড়ি সাদা আর নীল রঙের, আর এটিই এই দ্বীপের বৈশিষ্ট্য। এই সুন্দর দ্বীপটির পূর্বের ইতিহাস খুবই কষ্টের, কয়েক হাজার বছর আগে সমুদ্রের জ্বালামুখ থেকে আসা আগ্নেয়গিরির বিশাল অগ্ন্যুৎপাতের ফলে ধ্বংস হয়ে গিয়েছিল পূর্বের জনবসতি এবং দ্বীপের বিশাল অংশ, আর তারই ধ্বংসাবশেষ হিসেবে রয়ে গেছে বাঁকা চাঁদের মত একটি খণ্ড। যা আজকের সান্তরিনি দ্বীপ হিসেবে পরিচিত।
