Is this wasting money?
Yes, I actually put together 300 huge metal chunks to forge headwear that is most often made from normal fabrics such as leather, wool or polyester… But hey, if it works - it works!

I crafted 100 hats to see if I can earn money from it.

But as I am counting the profits, let’s talk about the likeliness of this actually being profitable. In practice, getting profit is very unlikely because the majority of hats are priced lower than their crafting price. That is made to ensure people can’t just craft a hat, sell it, craft another, sell it again and just keep earning infinite dollah bills. It makes complete sense. But of course, as with anything, there’s exceptions. For example the Buck Turner All-Stars or the Heavy Lifter. Some cosmetics tend to sell for a lot more than a regular craft hat and that is our one true glimmer of hope - to get enough of them and overcome our losses.
By the way, at the end of the video I will also annouce a giveaway, so that you can win some of todays hats! Now, back to business!
Firstly, let’s take a look at just how many of my hats made it pas the 3 refined pricing zone.
Nineteen. That nubmer is, I believe, quite good. Out of 100 hats, 81 have been unworthy of our efforts, however. To know if those 19 hats really make up for the difference though, we must finally look at the exact prices of our cosmetics. Adding up the prices of cosmetics on each row that did not break the 3 refined bareer we get these amounts…
Some things to note about the results - only 2 lines out of 10 did not have a single profitable item. The other 8 did. That means, those 8 will not only have to break even, but also account for the two poopy lines we got. Without counting in the profitable items, the line that made the most refined was the very first one to be crafted, which resulted in 16.5 refined, which is still 13.5 behind the goal of at least breaking even.
The second line had a single profitable item, it being the Classified Coif. The cosmetic was worth 6.5 refined, making the second line worth 22.05 refined. Still far from breaking even.
Line number three, however, had a different plan for us in store, with an astonish amount amount of 3 profitable items, adding 35 refined to it’s already existing 12.51, totaling 47.51 refined and getting the lead so far!
Fortunately, what was about to come was gonna put it to shame, because I was able to craft a Pip Boy, worth 7.5 refined!.. aaaaaaaaandd the previously mentioned Buck Turner All-Stars! Getting a craft like this is less likely than unboxing an unusual, so that’s pretty darn cool (even though I really wish it was an unusual instead..). This insane craft is worth 41.39 refined, making this line the most profitable out of all with a whopping 60.61 refined. Coincidentally, when making this video, a Mann Co. Key is worth 60.66 to 61.11 refined. So that’s almost a key! Of course, not in profit, because if we take away 30 refined from each line that used for crafting the hats, we get these numbers..
After counting all those, I was able to calculate how much refined I profited after taking my profitable lines and subtracting it from the unprofitable ones. And I am really happy to announce, that…. WE LOST LESS THAN ONE REFINED! I bet you did not see that coming! Yeah, I didn’t profit at all, but I did not lose too much, 0.78 refined to be exact. So of course spending my own time to do this, then to perhaps sell all these items to make the refined back is a larger loss in retrospective, but doing this was fun and the experiment was a success nonetheless! However, now I have 100 spare hats… Most of them I will give away to my subscribers on Discord, so please check it out in the description and submit daily quizzes to earn them! 10 randomly selected hats, however, will be given away to one of you. All you have to do is leave a comment with what your favourite hat ever is and like the video. In exactly a week I will draft a winner of all ten randomly selected hats and send it their way! Best of luck!
If you’ve watched the video to the end, consider checking out this video where I tried playing as many TF2 Fan-Made games as I could find. I think the video turned out great and I can assure you that a second part is already being worked on!
For now, till’ next time!
