The prime minister told reporters that he wanted to avoid a drawn-out process and recalled responses in the wake of previous major attacks in Australia. 'I just note that there was no royal commission called by the Howard government after Port Arthur,' he said. 'There was no royal commission called by the Abbott government after the Lindt siege'
