On January 2, residents' doctors at Mumbai's government hospitals and civic hospitals in several other districts of the state went on strike. Many of the doctors' demands, including the creation of new positions for senior residents, dearness allowance in accordance with the 7th Pay Commission, and payment of COVID-19 service arrears, were allegedly ignored by the government. The doctors will, however, continue to work in emergency services, according to the BMC's section of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD). At first, resident doctors at Mumbai's civic hospitals threatened to skip work beginning January 2. Doctors from the state's government-run medical colleges in other districts later announced that they would be absent from work beginning January 2.
