1. Laurent Simons
Laurent Simons is one of the most recent young college graduates! From Belgium, Simons nearly graduated before his 10th birthday but was unable to take the required tests at his previous school of Eindhoven University. He went on to attend the University of Antwerp where he just recently earned his bachelor’s in physics at the age of 11.
2. Michael Kearney
Get ready to be amazed by the story of Michael Kearney, the Guinness World Record holder for being the youngest college graduate ever. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Michael was homeschooled by his mother and diagnosed with ADHD at a young age. However, this child prodigy refused to let anything hold him back.
3. Moshe Kai Cavalin
Working hard must be part of his mantra because Moshe enrolled in college at eight and earned his first of two Associate of Arts degrees by age 11, graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Now 15 years of age, he’s a UCLA graduate along with graduates ten years older, with a bachelor’s degree in math.
But his academic achievements didn't stop there. Moshe earned another Master's degree in marketing just two years later from Arizona State University. In the midst of his studies, he also landed a Student Engineering Intern position at NASA!
4. Phoebe Cai
A 15-year old high school genius, Phoebe Cai is already engaged in research at a collegiate level, assisting in the data analysis of a research project at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. This past fall, Cai placed eighth in the Math Prize for Girls at MIT and was a bronze medalist at the Math Prize for Girls Olympiad.
5. Tadewos Abiye Getachew
This 17-year-old teenager and his teammates recently placed 1st in his sub-city’s science fair for developing Cognitosoft, a software program that aims to introduce students in local Ethiopian languages. The bright side is Getachew scored in the 99th percentile of Ethiopia’s National Examination and placed 1st in the Gibson School Systems World Math’s Day competition.
6. Inderjit Kaur
She led a team in several successful robotics competitions, including winning the gold medal in the International Symposium on Robotics and Intelligent Sensors 2012. Her team’s Nanny Robot was designed to monitor a baby’s status using sound and temperature sensors, which would activate functions such as rocking the baby in a swing, or contacting parents based on the child’s cries. The ultimate fact is she just beat the education system and done something to be amazed at! Really a true reddit story.
7. Joey Hudy
At only 16 years of age, this genius child has already won a number of awards for his engineering creations, the most recent of which was for creating a solar powered computer in the Sun Valley Solar Ultimate Challenge. Hudy is currently completing his high school math and science track at Herberger Young Scholars Academy at Arizona State University.
8. Kensen Shi
This most amazing kid won the top individual prize for the national Siemens Competition in Math, Science, and Technology in 2012. Shi placed 6th in the Intel Science Talent Search, has competed in a number of US mathematical Olympiads, and has a passion for playing the piano, twice winning the National Piano Audition from the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
9. Lawrence Sun
He is a 16 year old junior from Oregon who will matriculate to MIT this fall, forgoing his high school graduation, this is not anything funny. Yes MIT! Not only that Sun captained his team in the 2013 Winter Online Math Open, which placed first out of 119 competing teams. Sun plans to major in either physics, computer science, or mathematics at MIT.
