Taking a year off seemed to work well for Buster Posey. After opting out of the 2020 pandemic season to care for newly-adopted and prematurely-born baby twins, Buster was again a leader for the Giants in 2021. Posey hit 18 home runs, his most in a season since 2015, and slugged .499, his best since his MVP campaign in 2012.

Among catchers with 400 plate appearances, Posey's .304 average, .390 on-base percentage, 140 wRC+, and 4.9 fWAR all ranked 1st. His .499 slugging was 2nd only to Salvador Perez and his 48 home runs.

Posey was named an All-Star for the 7th time in his career, though he was unable to participate because of a thumb injury. He was also named the Players Choice NL Comeback Player of the Year, as voted on by fellow players. Posey is a finalist for the NL Silver Slugger award at catcher.
