Funding sources are critical in understanding policy developments related to infrastructure investment, but so are the studied impacts on Americans who rely on our transportation network to safely live, move, work and play.

For decades, the nonprofit national research group TRIP has provided insight into how the country’s transportation network affects users. This includes how poor road conditions and decreased driver safety dovetail.

Our country’s leaders need to understand the impacts of worsening road conditions as they consider how to suitably fund and finance modern 21st-century infrastructure, as Scott Parson, West Division President of CRH Americas Materials, Inc., emphasizes in this Americans for Transportation Mobility (ATM) Coalition video.

Parson is also immediate Past Chair of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA).

As a final takeaway, it is also worth highlighting what the Committee for Economic Development (CED) previously underscored in its “Fixing America's Roads & Bridges: The Path Forward” policy brief. “Just as we expect water and light to appear at the turn of the knob and flip of a switch, Americans also take for granted that our roads and bridges will be forever well-conditioned and readily accessible for safe, reliable travel,” according to CED.

“Unfortunately, a massive amount of deferred maintenance and a rapidly growing gap between investment needs and available funds threaten the ability of America’s surface transportation system to deliver on this expectation.”
