The Lotus Elise is one of the finest driving machines on the planet...which for me means challenge and reward. And we all know mid-engined cars are difficult to drive, but why, and how do you drive them compared to say a front-engined car like the Toyota 86? For example, is oversteer a problem for mid-engined cars? Do they naturally oversteer, and why? How do you drive to exploit their capabilities? What are the Lotus driving techniques?

That's exactly what I explore in this video using my experience in an Elise and 86. And what's discussed here is also applicable to other MR cars such as the Toyota MR2 which is famous for snap oversteer. The same would apply to the Porsche Cayman, Alpine A110 and any other mid-engined car.
