“The sheer scale of his triumph in doing that with Last Christmas was really quite amazing. It was, it was extraordinary. It was so obviously the distillation of Christmas itself. The essence, he captured the character of Christmas and so many elements of one's experience and idea of Christmas in that melody and in the cleverness of the lyric, that it was a nailed-on hit. There was, you know, we'd come to know what a hit was. So we knew that it was, as good as it could get. And it was a moment of song writing genius.”
