Pipe-organ give-away to good home!
(See, also,    • Pipe-Organ give-away 2:  The latest o...  )

This organ is in a small chapel, now closed, on the Isle of Man (of TT Motorcycle fame) off the west coast of the UK.
It was built in the 1880s by H.W. Hewitt, who always used second-hand parts, so it must be well over 130 years old.
The stops are: Open Diapason, Clarabella, Gamba, Flute 4', Principal 4' (from middle C) Octave Coupler, Pedal Coupler, Pedal Bourdon (12 pipes, only).
It plays perfectly well, and a suitable person or organisation is welcome to take it down as it stands. It is still in good order, and was regularly maintained and tuned until the chapel closed in 2014.
.
No other church on the Isle of Man seems to want this little instrument, which is why it is being offered, here. (One Church did seem to be interested, but in the end some unenlightened members of the congregation persuaded the others that their entertainment electronic organ, with its offset keyboards and 13 stick pedals, was a better bet, despite the two organists of the church being very much in favour of a change!)
.
This recording was made after the organ had stood in an unheated, unused building for over two years.
.
Whilst the instrument is working just as it always did, with no mechanical faults and could be removed and set up, just as it stands, now, the organ-builder recommends that it is overhauled when taken down. This would cover a general cleaning, new tuning slides and any minor pipe repairs and (most significantly) an overhaul of the soundboard. The cost of this, including dismantling and re-assembly (but not including travelling and transportation costs off the Isle of Man) is likely to be around £4,000.00.
.
Leave a comment, if you would like more information on the availability of this instrument, but act quickly, as the chapel has been sold and the organ must be removed.
