Limestone floor cleaning, polishing and sealing services - Arundel Cathedral West Sussex

This was a 145-year-old Limestone floor that had become dull, dirty, discoloured and heavily stained from candle wax and high levels of foot traffic.

The floor required a lot of care and attention to make sure it was not damaged by the cleaning process.

We carried out a number of site visits to carry out test cleans to achieve the best results while looking after the floor.

We needed to remove the ingrained dirt from the Limestone tiles without damaging them.

This was a challenging project working in the Cathedral while open to the public.

We used a team of five men to carry out the work over a four-week period splitting the Cathedral up into six sections.

Working on one section at a time enabled visitors to enjoy the Cathedral and mitigate any disruption while the works were being carried out.

Our team manually removed 145 years of candle wax from the floor.

Using both our mechanical and chemical cleaning processes we remove the heavy ingrained dirt and stains.

Once the floor was cleaned we diamond-honed out all etch marks and stains before diamond honing, diamond polishing and sealing the floor on completion.

Maintenance

It is important to have a well-maintained Limestone floor to maintain its original appearance and provide a clean and healthy environment.
