Holi 202​2: India celebrates festival of colours as COVID-19 cases dip

People across India marked Holi, the Hindu festival of colours, on Friday during which they smeared each other with coloured powder, danced, and sang across the country.

The festivities were grand in most places as COVID-19 cases significantly dipped, with less than 30,000 active cases throughout the country of 1.4 billion. India reported 2,528 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.

"I'm very excited, I'm very happy because after two years we are celebrating Holi. So, it's a big thing for us," said a reveller in Pune, Priya Patil.

Holi heralds the beginning of spring and is a celebration of the triumph of good over evil.
