台山市（漢語拼音: Taishan；傳統外文名：Tois(h)an ），舊稱新寧。 1914年經由中華民國內政部改定各省重複縣名，因湖南、四川、廣西、廣東四省皆存在同名之“新寧縣”，廣東省新寧縣以城北有三台山以及縣城別名台城而改名為台山縣。 1992年撤縣設市。為中國廣東省轄縣級市，現由江門市代管。位於珠江三角洲的西側、南海岸邊，過去與新會、開平、恩平合稱“四邑”，近年來加上鶴山，改稱“五邑”。市民政府駐中山路23號。
台山市名在轉換成繁體字時常被誤寫成“臺山市”，這是不正確的。台山市名源自其主山三台山，古代用「三台」比「三公」（古代最高官位），所以舊時常用「台」來作為對別人的尊稱。而「臺」意為土築的高壇，亦表示古代的官署名。兩者意義大不相同。
台山市是著名的排球之鄉 、 廣東音樂之鄉、中國曲藝之鄉、飄色藝術之鄉，也是全國文明城市提名城市、國家森林城市。是嶺南著名的僑鄉，目前全市旅居海外的華僑約有130多萬。
台山新石器時代已經有居民。秦漢至三國屬番禺縣（ 不過《廣東省廣州市佛山地區韶關地區沿革地理》認為屬四會縣）。三國至明初，屬新會縣。註：西晉時，今台山市西南部曾設置海安縣，但東晉時已併入新會縣。

Taishan City (Pinyin: Taishan; Traditional Foreign Name: Tois(h)an), formerly known as Xinning. In 1914, the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of China revised the names of duplicate counties in various provinces. Since there were "Xinning County" with the same name in Hunan, Sichuan, Guangxi and Guangdong provinces, Xinning County in Guangdong Province was renamed Taishan County because of the three Taishan Mountains in the north of the city and the county seat's alias Taicheng. In 1992, the county was abolished and the city was established. It is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, China, and is now administered by Jiangmen City. Located on the west side of the Pearl River Delta and the coast of the South China Sea, it was previously called "Four Counties" together with Xinhui, Kaiping and Enping. In recent years, Heshan was added and renamed "Five Counties". The Municipal People's Government is located at No. 23 Zhongshan Road.
The name of Taishan City is often mistakenly written as "臺山市" when converted into traditional Chinese characters, which is incorrect. The name of Taishan City comes from its main mountain, Santaishan. In ancient times, "Santai" was used to refer to "Sangong" (the highest official position in ancient times), so "Tai" was often used as a respectful title for others. "Tai" means a high altar built of earth, and also means the name of an ancient official office. The two have very different meanings.
Taishan City is a famous volleyball hometown, Guangdong music hometown, Chinese folk art hometown, and Piaose art hometown. It is also a national civilized city nomination city and a national forest city. It is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Lingnan. At present, there are more than 1.3 million overseas Chinese living in the city.
Taishan already had residents in the Neolithic Age. From the Qin and Han Dynasties to the Three Kingdoms, it belonged to Panyu County (but "The Evolution and Geography of Shaoguan Area, Foshan District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province" believes that it belongs to Sihui County). From the Three Kingdoms to the early Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Xinhui County. Note: In the Western Jin Dynasty, Hai'an County was set up in the southwest of Taishan City, but it was merged into Xinhui County in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.
