We recently spent a few days in Yeppoon and enjoyed starting the day with a coffee overlooking the esplanade. We then wandered along the esplanade to the stunning infinity lagoon. We admired the views from the Wreck Point Scenic Lookout and visited Emu Park and Upper Stony Creek. We also enjoyed a day trip to Great Keppel Island.

The Yeppoon Foreshore has lovely grassed areas, colourful murals and picnic areas along the beautiful 1.4-kilometre Main Beach. The Keppel Kraken water play area features mythical sea creatures, water cannons, jets and other interactive play elements.

The Yeppoon Lagoon is a 2500-square-metre resort-style swimming pool on the beachfront. It has a shallow children’s play area, an informal lap pool, and an infinite edge with stunning views over the Keppel Islands. Entry to the Lagoon is free, and it is open every day and patrolled by Surf Life Savers.

The Wreck Point Scenic Lookout at Cooee Bay is a short drive from the town centre and has stunning views over Keppel Bay. The shipwreck artwork and interpretive panels tell the story of Selina, a 62-ton transport schooner found washed ashore in this area in October 1848. Walking down the 68 steps, you can get a close-up look at the ‘Selina’ and see the views from the bottom platform.

Emu Park is a lovely little coastal town 21 kilometres South of Yeppoon, with a great swimming beach, fun murals and wonderful coastal walks. The Centenary of Anzac Memorial Walk is a reflective memorial boardwalk with informative historical interpretative signs, sculptures, and viewing decks over the ocean.

At the end of this boardwalk, you will find the famous Singing Ship Sculpture, commemorating the historical explorations of Captain James Cook, who discovered this bay in May 1770. The Singing Ship has a unique design that represents the billowing sail, mast and rigging of the ship Endeavour. Concealed organ pipes use the sea breezes to create musical sounds.

Upper Stony Creek is in the Byfield State Forest, 40 kilometres north of Yeppoon. There is a lovely freshwater swimming hole, picnic and barbecue areas and several short walks. Venusta Circuit is a great short walk along the creek with great views and wildflowers, including the Byfield Grevillea in spring and more rock pools to explore and swim in.

A 30-minute ferry ride from Yeppoon will bring you to the white sandy shores of beautiful Great Keppel Island. Here, you can enjoy bushwalks and stunning beaches, relax, swim, snorkel or kayak on the crystal clear water. There is also a bar and restaurant where you can enjoy a lovely lunch and cold drink at the Great Keppel Hideaway.
