In this video I demonstrate how to service the 722.9 Transmission (Replacing the Fluid / Oil and Filter) on a Mercedes ML Class or in-fact many other classes of Mercedes with this Transmission and this video is deliberately designed with the beginner in mind. As a result I have deliberately limited this to a "fluid change" making the procedure as easy as possible and have described it in absolutely in the best way that I can. Having said this, this is exactly what I have done on the two Mercedes ML-Class W164 vehicles that I maintain in my family (both for the last 100k kilometres) and both vehicles transmissions are operating flawlessly with no signs of wear.

The procedure will take less than 1 1/2 hours and mostly with standard tools, any extra tools and all parts are mentioned here. I recommend this procedure every 30K mile or 50K km.

This is not a extremely complex procedure, however this video has deliberately designed as a beginners guide for those that have never undertaken this task before! What you will see is that I step by step show you how to do this procedure safely with minimal tools. In particular I have attempted to film all of the steps involved without avoiding the trickier elements of this task.

Specifically in this video I am demonstrating this using my 2011 Mercedes ML300.

If you planning to keep your Mercedes Benz for long time, here is the one service that you must do, unlike MB claims that the newer transmissions are filled with life time fluid and they should not be replaced, my experience tells me it’s a matter of time before your transmission fails if you don’t execute frequent fluid changes.

This video is actually part of a complete series of videos that I am doing (named "Front to Back"), where I am replacing every single fluid in this vehicle. Checkout the complete playlist here:    • Front to Back Complete Fluid Change -...
