See how to replace the output seals on a Mercury outboard in this video from Boats.net. We’ve removed the gearcase from our outboard, and if you need to see how to do that, find the video here:    • Mercury 200 Lower Unit Removal | How ...

There is a seal kit available for your Mercury 200 outboard, and that kit includes input seals, shift shaft seals, and the output seals for your gearcase. With the lower unit removed, we’re utilizing the whole kit to replace all three. This will make sense for a lot of people since you might as well replace them all if you’ve gone to the trouble of removing the lower unit.

In this video, John will show you how to remove the carrier assembly containing the output seals. Once removed, we’ll clean the gearcase housing and then remove the reverse gear from the carrier housing. There are actually two seals you’ll need to replace, and they sit back to back inside the carrier housing. In the diagram linked below, you can see where they’re positioned as parts #32 and #33. We’ll use a bearing driver to seat the seals, and then we’ll replace the reverse gear on the carrier housing. We’ll wrap the project up by showing you how to replace the carrier housing on your Mercury outboard.
