The IEEE Computer Society presented its 2011 Technical Achievement Award to Frederica Darema for her pioneering contributions to novel techniques for complex systems modeling and simulation. The Technical Achievement Award honors outstanding and innovative contributions to computer and information science and engineering, usually within the past 10 years. Dr. Darema accepted her award at the Computer Society's 25 May 2011 awards ceremony in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Frederica Darema is currently the Director, Mathematics, Information and Life Sciences, Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Her specializations include advanced mathematical methods, bio-systems and socio-cultural systems. Dr. Darema's research has had tremendous impact on high-performance systems. She invented the Single Program Multiple Data model (SPMD), and her work has also paved the way for a new paradigm known as Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems (DDAS).

Dr. Darema's scientific and technical contributions include development of parallel applications; parallel algorithms; programming models; environments and systems performance engineering for the design of applications and of software for parallel and distributed systems.
