Raku Firing Workshop | August 2019

Описание к видео Raku Firing Workshop | August 2019

Raku is an ancient Japanese firing process that dates back to the 16th century. In essence, Raku is when pots are removed from the kiln when they are glowing red hot, then placed within combustible materials to rapidly reduce the temperature. The glazed areas of the pot have an iridescent copper surface with varying beautiful textures. Any area left unglazed turns charcoal/black due to the smoke absorption during the reduction process. Depending on the angle and intensity of surrounding light, the copper surface changes colors.

This video was taken during a Raku Firing Workshop at Saint Joseph's College of Maine in August 2019. These workshops occur on a monthly basis and are open to the public. For all inquiries, email [email protected].
