It's official. Merge and Center is evil! Three reasons not to use Merge and Center:
1) Can't sort
2) Can't remove duplicates.
3) Can select a column with the keyboard - CTRL + Shift

To remove all Merge and Center fields:
1) Click Select All with the mouse. It is above row 1.
2) On the Home Tab, in the Alignment Group, click the arrow by Merge and Center and select Unmerge Cells.
