Renovating a Vintage Vergez Blanchard Crew (Oblong) Punch

In this video I'm doing a bit of light restoration work on a vintage Vergez Blanchard crew punch which I picked up at the antiques fair in Harrogate.

The idea of the video is just to give a brief look at a few of the things you can do to bring an old tool back to life and return it to service. There are of course lots of different products you can use and sometimes more or less is needed depending on the state of the item. Sometimes things are too far gone and not worth saving but other times, as in this case, all they need is a good clean and a sharpen.

The sharpening plates used are DMT Dia-Sharp diamond plates (I think I said Trend in the video accidentally) which can be purchased on Amazon. If you sharpen items regularly they are excellent though not cheap! I have them in 'extra fine', 'fine' and 'course':
