Supreme Court five judge Constitution Bench to begin hearing the batch of petitions seeking legal recognition for same sex marriages in India. The bench of Chief Justice of India Dr DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, Justice Hima Kohli and Justice PS Narasimhawill be hearing the batch of 20 petitions filed before the top court.

Same-sex couples from around the country have approached the Supreme Court with the plea stating that same sex marriages should be legalised under the Special Marriage Act that currently allows for inter-religion marriages amongst others.
