After the coup in Bangladesh on August 5, ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken refuge in India. Meanwhile, there is news that the duration of her visa in India has been extended. Sources say that the Indian government has extended the visa period of Sheikh Hasina, after which there will be no problem regarding her stay in India for the time being. Sheikh Hasina fled from Bangladesh and reached Hindon Airbase in India, from where she has reportedly been relocated to a safehouse in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, had requested the Indian government on 23 December for the extradition of Sheikh Hasina. Sources have clarified that due to the absence of a refugee law in India, Sheikh Hasina has not been given any refugee status yet. Earlier on Tuesday, Bangladeshi authorities canceled the passports of 97 people including Sheikh Hasina.

Of these, 22 people are facing charges of involvement in alleged kidnapping, while 75 others are accused of murder during the student protests last year. Let us tell you that on August 5 last year, Sheikh Hasina's government was overthrown. On the same day, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and came to India. Sheikh Hasina is currently living in India. After Sheikh Hasina left the country, an interim government was formed, headed by Mohammad Yunus. Yunus has demanded the extradition of Sheikh Hasina several times.

Several criminal cases have also been registered against Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh and a case has been filed against her in the International Court. It is known that general elections were held in Bangladesh in January this year. Sheikh Hasina's party Awami League won a big victory in these elections. Awami League won 224 out of 300 seats in Parliament. Sheikh Hasina was the Prime Minister of Bangladesh since 2009. She was the first woman to hold the post of Prime Minister for the longest time.
