At the Scottish National Party conference in Aberdeen, H.E. Ambassador Husam Zomlot delivered a speech thanking the people of Scotland for standing “when it mattered the most,” and honouring SNP leaders like John Swinney for their solidarity.

He declared that recognition of Palestine is “not the destination, it is only the beginning,” stressing the ongoing struggle to end occupation, achieve freedom, and build peace.

Dr Zomlot praised Scotland for being among the first to call for a ceasefire, sanctions on Israel, and recognition of a Palestinian state.

He concluded by expressing deep personal gratitude, saying it meant a great deal “that you were literally standing by my side … to say thank you … to Scotland.”
