Pablo Picasso “The Bullfights” (The Early Year's)

Passion for the Arena
The Yong-to-be artist had barely turned eight years old when he accompanied his father to the arena “corrida” in Malaga. As Picasso sat next to his father under the heated Spanish sun, his eyes focused on the bullfights for the first time. Picasso found himself entirely fascinated by the theatrical brutality that emanated from the bullfighter and, in his dance with the bull, where at any given moment, one of the bulls would threaten the horse of the picador, the subs-pence would be overwhelming. It became Picasso's passion, and this Spanish child will be committed to it until the end of his life. Picasso’s first work on the subject, dated 1898, entitled: “Pettit Picador Jaune” which he painted at only eight years old. Later in 1901, when he arrived in Paris, the bullfighting theme became a recurring subject in his paintings, drawings, engravings, and sculptures which is a testament to his attachment to the world of bullfighting far from his native skies of Spain.
