Aare River has cut a gorge in the limestone, that is 200 meters deep in some places. At it's narrowest point, the Aare gorge is just 1 meter wide. The widest point is about 30 meters wide.
The path through the gorge is accessed by entrances at each end of the gorge, where an admission charge is levied (12 CHF for adult).
For most of its length, the path is a wooden construction on a metal frame, cantilevered out from the wall of the gorge. There are also few short tunnels on the way.
It is an easy and highly recommended hike through the entire gorge.
The hike length is about 1.4 km, an easy 40 minute walk.
The best parts of Aare Gorge, from the western entrance to the middle of the gorge, are disability friendly and wheelchair accessible.
While hiking there, you will enjoy an amazing deep blue color of the Aare river.
