Shiva is also known as Mahakal "The Destroyer" is the part of Trimurti along with Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. According to Hindu Mythology in Shaivism tradition, Lord Shiva is the supreme god who has the power to create, protect, transform, and destroy this universe with the blink of an eye.

And In Shaktism tradition, Devi or "The Goddess" is the one who is considered as supreme. Devi is considered as creative power and energy "Shakti", is the better half of Mahakal known as Sati (Parvati). In the Smarta Hindu tradition, Lord Shiva and Sati are considered as one soul to form Adishakti.

According to the Shaivism tradition, Ishvar who is transcendent, formless, limitless is an absolute Brahman and the soul of the universe. We can depict Lord Shiva in two aspects, one in a benevolent aspect where we can see Lord Shiva as a peaceful Yogi who lives an ascetic life with better half Parvati and two sons Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha on Mount Kailash.

Why the color of Lord Shiva is Blue?
In Sagarmanthan, a war of gods against the demons for Amrit (Elixir), due to the excretion of poison in the war both gods and demons were about to die. Then Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu prayed Lord Shiva to came to their rescue. Lord Shiva is the most powerful god in the whole universe, he drank the deadly poison which soon started spreading in his body as a result of which his body turned blue.

Significance of The Trishul and Damru
Trishul or The Trident is the weapon of Mahakal. The Trident consists of three edges that symbolize Creation, Destruction, and Maintenance of the three Kalas Past, Present, and Future. The Damru is attached with the Trishul. In Hindu mythology, Mahakal is the lord of cosmic sound and dance of AUM (from which the universe is generated).

Lord Shiva and Ravana
Ravana is considered to be the greatest devotee of Lord Shiva. As per Hindu mythology, for decades. the imprisoned Ravana sang hymns in praise of Mahakal, who finally blessed him with a powerful linga and an invincible sword.

Ravana was also the creator of Shiv Tandav Stotram, which he sang to calm down Mahakal. It is considered to be the most powerful Shiva mantra of all time and consists of 16 quatrains with 16 syllables per line!
