After 15+ years of scuba diving, I’ve learned that packing smarter matters more than packing more. Here are the exact steps I use to save space and protect my gear on dive trips:
1. Put your mask in your fin pocket
2. Pack your BCD open inside your bag
3. Lay your wetsuit unfolded, with half inside the BCD
4. Place your regulator on the wetsuit inside the BCD, then fold the wetsuit over it
5. Bring the sides of the BCD together over everything and clasp it closed

It’s basically wrapping a little present inside your luggage.

Note for divers: If your regulator is high value, custom tuned, or hard to replace on location, consider carrying it on in its own bag, depending on your destination and comfort level.
