Chicks have to learn to dive underwater to protect themselves against predators in the sky. Because of the abundance of food and low survival rates of the chicks, jacanas have evolved such that the females have become egg laying machines. Instead of the typical mother incubating eggs, female jacanas will flee the nest after laying the eggs, leaving the eggs to dad, moving on to another area to mate with other males never to return. Dads will incubate the eggs for 26 days, and give the chicks survival training for another month. Dads have evolved special wings. Once they detect danger, they will call for the chicks and carry them under his wings
