वाशिम विदर्भाच्या पूर्वेकडील भागात स्थित आहे. त्याच्या उत्तरेला अकोला, उत्तर-पूर्व मध्ये अमरावती आहे, हिंगोली दक्षिणेस आहे, बुलढाणा पश्चिमेला आहे, यवतमाळ हा पूर्वेस आहे. पैनगंगा नदी ही जिल्ह्यातील मुख्य नदी आहे. हे रिसोड च्या तहसील माध्यमातून वाहते. पुढे वाशिम आणि हिंगोली जिल्ह्यांच्या सीमेवरून वाहते. पैनगंगाची मुख्य उपनदी कास ही नदी आहे. कास नदीचा परिसर शेळगाव राजगुरे या गावापासून सुमारे 1 किमी अंतरावर आहे. अरुणावती नदी आणि त्याच्या उपनद्यांतील वाशिम तालुक्यात उगम होऊन ते यवतमाळ जिल्ह्यात मंगरुळपीर व मानोरा तालुक्यामधून वाहते. काटेपुना नदीचा उगम जिल्ह्याच्या डोंगराळ भागात होतो आणि मालेगावच्या तहसीलद्वारे उत्तरेकडे वाहून अकोला जिल्ह्यात प्रवेश करतो.

Hingoli district is an administrative district in the state of Maharashtra in India. The district is headquartered at Hingoli. The district occupies an area of 4,526 km2 and has a population of 11,77,345 of which 15.60% were urban (as of 2011).[2] Hingoli was actually known as the Nizams military base as it was bordered with Vidharbha. In that era military troops, hospitals, veterinary hospital were in operation from Hingoli. Being a military base the city was one of the important and famous places of the Hyderabad state. One of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines, the Aundha Nagnath is located in Hingoli district about 25 km south-west from district headquarter.

This district is divided into two sub-divisions, which are further divided into five talukas. Hingoli sub-division is divided into three talukas: Hingoli, Kalamnuri and Sengaon. Basmath sub-division is divided into two talukas: Aundha and Basmath.

There are three Vidhan Sabha constituencies in this district: Basmath, Kalamnuri and Hingoli. All three are part of Hingoli Lok Sabha constituency.[6]

Hingoli is situated at the northern part of Marathwada in Maharashtra. Borders of Hingoli are surrounded by districts Washim and Yavatmal in northern side, Parbhani in western side, and Nanded at south-eastern side. There are two medium-sized dams present on both East and West sides of the district namely Isapur dam and Yeldari dam, Isapur dam provides water to irrigation purpose whereas Yeldari dam caters to irrigation as well as production of hydroelectricity. One minor dam named Siddheshwar also used for irrigation purpose in district.
The territory of the present district became part of Bombay state in 1956 and Maharashtra state in 1960 as part of Parbhani district. This district was carved out from Parbhani district on 1 May 1999 with five own tehsils: Hingoli, Kalamanuri, Sengaon, Aundha Naganath, and Basamat.
Aundha Naganath is a town in the Basmath subdivision of Hingoli district. It lies in the Marathwada region of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The town is known for the Aundha Nagnath Temple, which is dedicated to Shiva. The famous tourist spot along with the Temple includes the beautiful Garden and the Reserved Forest Region on the outskirts of the town.The townTourism in Marathwada refers to tourism in Marathwada region of Maharashtra state of India. Aurangabad city is a regional headquarter of Marathwada and tourism capital of Maharashtra state.[2] Out of 4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Maharashtra, 2 of them are in Marathwada.[3][4][5] Also there are 110 monuments in Marathwada which are protected by Government of Maharashtra and recognized by Archaeological Survey of India.[6] Marathwada is also important region for Religious tourism, out of 12 Jyotirlingas of Hindu God Shiva, 3 are in Marathwada.[7] Hazur Sahib Nanded is the second holiest place in Sikhism after Harminder Sahib (Golden Temple) of Amritsir.[8] T is also famous for the Siddheshwar Dam, which is about 15 km away from the city in the western direction. The proposed site for the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO-India) Project, the research centre to detect Gravitational Waves lies 12 km away from the town. After its scheduled completion in 2024, worldwide this research facility will be the third such facility after Hanford, Washington and Livingston, Louisiana in the USA.
