About The Award:
The Anne Spencer Literary Arts Award, Introduced in 2022 and presented to a student participating in The Dinner Table through our collaboration with the Washington ‪@dcpublicschools‬ System's "We The Girls" program. The award is named after Anne Spencer, a poet, teacher, civil rights activist, librarian, and gardener. She was a prominent figure of the Harlem Renaissance, also known as the New Negro Movement, despite living in Virginia for most of her life, far from the center of the movement in New York. Rahel Tseganeh is receiving this award for her outstanding participation in our inaugural book club with DCPS and her outstanding commitment to literature.

Many thanks to our collaborative and space partners, ‪@WeeksvilleWHCTV‬ Weeksville Heritage Center is an historic site and cultural center in Central Brooklyn that uses education, arts and a social justice lens to preserve, document and inspire engagement with the history of Weeksville, one of the largest free Black communities in pre-Civil War America, and the Historic Hunterfly Road Houses.
