57th ADB Annual Meeting: Opening Session of the Board of Governors

In an address at the Opening Session of the 57th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors, President Masatsugu Asakawa emphasized the urgent need to enhance resilience, particularly addressing heat stress and its impacts on agriculture, infrastructure, health, and gender equality. He underscored the importance of leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for inclusive growth, while ensuring responsible deployment and mitigating risks such as bias and lack of transparency.

On globalization, President Asakawa advocated for deeper regional cooperation to build greener and more open economies, rejecting protectionism in favor of fostering resilient supply chains and reducing carbon emissions.

Lastly, he stressed the importance of supporting the most vulnerable populations, including those in small island developing states, through concessional financing and inclusive development initiatives.

President Asakawa concluded by encouraging dialogue on these critical topics and fostering mutual understanding among attendees, while celebrating the beauty of Tbilisi and Georgian culture.
