Using smaller paper

I had a question from Anomystic on YouTube querying whether they could use the same style and technique from my videos on smaller paper format?

Question: Can your style and technique be done on a5 paper? I’m still learning watercolour and you’re colours and still is what I imagine being able to pair looks like. But I’m practicing on smaller sheets I’m cutting into roughly a5 and finding it is making me try to be more controlled because of the smaller canvas. I want to learn properly but not waste full sheets etc. Can it be done (loose style) smaller?

Answer: I'm sure the same style and technique can be applied to the smaller format. The large Ron Ranson hake brush I use comes in 4 different sizes. I use the large as I feel it suits the paper size I use: 15x11in. I also have the small brush and used it long ago when I tried the A5 paper size you refer to. I felt it worked fine and would recommend you giving it a try. The smaller brush suits the smaller paper so hopefully you should be OK. Best of luck and let me know how you get on.

I know many of you use smaller paper for your watercolours. I've used 15x11in for a while now but have considered cutting it into quarters and try painting outdoors. Something to think about.
