On April 21, 1988, Joe Franklin had as his guest, George Meegan, Guinness World Record holder for the longest walk undertaken by a human and author of "The Longest Walk: An Odyssey of the Human Spirit," an account of his journey from the southernmost tip of South America to the Arctic Circle in northern Alaska. This show aired on WOR-TV in New York City. Meegan points out that since Franklin had the then-longest running talk show, this appearance represents a meeting of the longest walk with the longest talk.
