Liberal MP Keith Wolahan has questioned what Labor “have to fear” in lifting the ban on nuclear energy.

Mr Wolahan’s comments come as the CSIRO and AEMO predicted a large-scale nuclear reactor would cost around $16 billion.

The 2024 GenCost report claims nuclear energy would be around twice the cost of renewable alternatives.

The Liberal MP said the Liberals will have their “detailed response” in due course.

“We ask the Labor party what do you have to fear in lifting the ban,” Mr Wolahan told Sky News Australia.

“Let the private sector along with other bodies do the maths on this.”
