Happy Thursday! We are kicking off 2026 with an incredibly active solar disk. The sun rang out the old year with a powerful M7.1 flare from AR4324, and today we are tracking a total of 14 active regions. The star of the show is AR4325, which currently sports a delta-class magnetic field—the most complex and energetic configuration possible—posing a significant threat for Earth-directed X-class flares.

As we settle into the first stream of the year, we are also welcoming the return of longer days. In my area, we are gaining about 25 seconds of daylight today, a trend that will continue as we head toward spring. We are currently under a G2 (Moderate) geomagnetic storm watch due to incoming CMEs, so join our community of cloud-chasers as we observe the photosphere in white light and watch for the next big eruption in real-time.
