Numbers in Mandarin are a completely different system. That’s why it’s best to learn them in Mandarin, so you can slowly build your “Mandarin brain.” It’s really hard to explain in English😅 I tried my best to translate, and I hope it makes sense!

Here are some key words from this lesson:
• 單位 (dān wèi) → “place value unit” (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten-thousands…)
• 位數 (wèi shù) → “digit place” (the 1st digit, 2nd digit, 3rd digit from the right)
• 量詞 (liàng cí) → “measure word / classifier” (ex: one cup of coffee, one piece of clothing)
• 四進位 (sì jìn wèi) → “ten-thousand based grouping system” (in Mandarin, numbers group every 4 digits, not every 3 like in English)
