As the seasons change, monarch butterflies begin their long migration — but in warmer places like Southern California and other Southern regions, milkweed doesn’t always die back naturally. In this video, I share why cutting milkweed in fall is one of the simplest ways to help monarchs stay healthy, prevent the spread of disease, and encourage them to continue their journey. You’ll also learn about the OE parasite, how tropical milkweed can affect migrating monarchs, and what you can do to support them through small changes in your garden. And since it’s not all serious talk, I’m also sharing one of my favorite milkweed varieties — the Hairy Balls milkweed — a fun and unique plant that always sparks conversation! By growing milkweed responsibly, we can all play a part in helping these magical creatures thrive for generations to come. 🌿🦋
