Visited @redlodgekarting last weekend for their local IKR, first time out for 6 months. If anything it was a test to see how Sam handled being back in a kart, along with making sure the engine still pulled.

Not much on track during Friday testing to compare against and a good job we had a test session as driving out of the pits, plug failed on the first session. By the end of the day, weren't confident on the setup as felt we were around 2 seconds off the pace from last months race times at Red Lodge.

Red Lodge is a demanding circuit, lots of fast tight turns, only got a couple of test sessions in before Sam's hip was getting a little sore, so chose to save our selves for the race on Saturday.

Good night sleep, new set of rubber on, and some time to reflect on Friday testing, along with a chat with a couple of very helpful guys around the paddock, who confirmed our setup wasn't far off, we were now ready to go into the first race day session, which was qualifying.

With more karts on circuit for qualifying, Sam started to learn how others were managing the track. Got our time down to 40.844, putting us P9 out of 15 karts, still nearly a second off the fastest kart but 2 seconds faster then previous days testing.

Started Heat 1 with some purpose - taking nearly half a second out of our qualifying time, only 3 tenths of the fastest session time but the circuit was starting to get to Sam's hips. Finished P10.

Gained a place in Heat 2 to finish P9, while knocking another tenth off our previous time, down to 40.261 but Sam was now hurting going into some of the corners and had to start lifting!

Even though Sam was in pain, we decided to give Heat 3 ago. Started P9, finished P10. This session was just too much for Sam's physique, if it wasn't his hips, then his neck was starting to give.

Would have started P10 in the final and Sam wanted to do it but his manager made an executive decision to not run.

Sam showed potential at a circuit he's not been to before. Sam's fit but not kart fit, sure if it wasn't for his physical issues, then Sam could have been in the top 5. Might revisit Red Lodge, to see if that theory is true.

Just a few weeks before we head back out, we know what needs working on - lets see if we can make it through a full weekend next time.
