The construction date of Tehran bazaar goes back to the Qajar era, although there is a difference of opinion about the time of its construction. Some consider Naser al-Din Shah to be the founder of Tehran Bazaar, and some attribute its establishment to Shah Tahmasab Safavi. It seems that the bazaar was an open market during the Safavid era, and then it was covered with a roof during the time of Naseruddin Shah.

In addition, the Bain al-Harameen market was built during the Qajar period of Mohammad Shah, and the cobblers' market and Sarai Amir were also built during the Naser al-Din Shah period. In the Pahlavi period, with the advent of modernity and the construction of bazaars, the traditional structure and function of the bazaar in cultural and social issues declined to some extent.
This market played a significant role in cultural, political and social developments during the Qajar and Pahlavi periods. Bazaris stood against the government with their strong presence during the constitutional period and joined the people.
