Finally we arrived in the Portuguise capital of Lisbon. A very busy and vibrant city and a very busy station. A lot of frequent arrivals and departures to the North to Oporto and long haul trains to Spain also much local traffic too. A lot of trains on this route had a single motorail car and always seemed to have one or more vehicles on board. At the time of filming there was no rail crossing over the River Tagus connecting to the Southern part of the country, instead it was a long journey round heading North East via Setil and Vendas Novos if you chose to do by rail, a little impractical. The more obvious choice was to cross by boat to Barriero, where the majority of trains to Faro and the Algarve departed and arrived from (Visited the following day). Nowadays one can use the Ponte 25 de Abril bridge and the Fertagus train service to Setubal (Visited the following day also) which takes around 25 minutes, a vast improvement.
